Montemarte avec Terry et Manuella

Drew.  We left to meet our new ami Terry for a quick lunch wherein he was going to help us with some of his favorite tables in the south of France.  We got back to our apartment 13 hours later.  One hour in, we had plowed through several rounds of coffee and croissants at Terry’s local Tabac. Three hours in we had finished a bottle of wine, four hours in the tally was up to two bottles and some champagne.  By the end of the day we had finished off more champagne, oysters, eclairs, calvados (a kind of cognac made up in Normandy), strawberries, and enough fromage to bring down an elephant.  (I know that last part doesn’t really make any sense, but I want to convey that it was a lot of cheese.)  We’d met half of Montemarte. My favorite part of the evening was staying late at Terry and Manuella’s apartment drinking and practicing our French and English. Terry was such a gracious host — we’d say “we love eclairs!” and he’d disappear and come back from a local shop with a tray of them.  “We love cheese!” and he’d come back with two plates full.

Sara: That was my favorite part, too. Terry and Manuela are the most wonderful people—we are so lucky to have met them.
