Downtown Shopping
Drew. With the arrival of my brother and mother, we took the opportunity to walk downtown for some shopping and more carbs. We started the day at our new favorite bakery — Eric Kayser — which is from what I can tell the most famous French bakery simply because it’s the only one that has branded itself (this is a subject for another post). From Kayser, we walked downtown for some shopping, hitting Laduree, Colette, Costes, and other places en route. Tired, we hoofed it over to Tuilleries to relax and take in the gardens.
Our friend Kim’s sister runs a few lunch places in Paris called “Qualite and Co”. We ate at the one near Colette. Very New York — good, high-quality food served up quickly. It’s for when you want to depart from the default three hour lunch and get on with your day.
Sara: Chic New Yorkers always say you must hit Laduree in Paris, but I think everything but the packaging is overrated. The macarons are delicious, but not better than the ones we’ve had from some other bakeries, and they are expensive. I think we paid $30 or so for 12 or 14.
Colette, on the other hand, is NOT overrated.
